Sourcing
Why Oregon in the United States?
Different climates and soil compositions affect peppermint in different ways. In the Pacific Northwest of North America, regular and abundant annual rainfall creates ideal conditions for cultivating peppermint. These conditions also support a naturally high menthol content, which gives peppermint its characteristic minty aroma and flavour.

How is it sourced?
Peppermint is a perennial herb that originated as a hybrid of watermint and spearmint. The essential oil is obtained from the above-ground parts of the plant. When the peppermint is ready to harvest, it is cut close to the ground and left in the field for several days to dry. It is then chopped before distillation. Approximately half a kilogram of peppermint leaves is needed to produce one 15 ml bottle of essential oil. In autumn, the plant material left after distillation is reused as mulch.
