: Lemongrass produces a smoky, citrusy essential oil that offers many benefits. Asian cuisine has long used Lemongrass essential oil in soups, teas and curries, and to season fish, poultry, beef and seafood. Its strong, herbaceous aroma refreshes the atmosphere of any room.

Primary Benefits

  • Use it to add a pleasantly uplifting flavor to a wide variety of dishes, from savory and spicy recipes to sweet desserts.
  • Its smoky, citrusy aroma creates a refreshing atmosphere in any room.

Cooking with Lemongrass essential oil

Essential oils are far more potent than dried herbs or other flavorings, so even the smallest amount can deliver remarkable flavor to food. When cooking with Lemongrass essential oil, the best approach is the toothpick method: dip the end of a clean toothpick into the oil bottle, then stir it into the other ingredients. After mixing it thoroughly into the dish, taste it to determine whether any more oil is needed.

Uses

  • Use to flavor Asian-style soups, teas, and curries.
  • Blends harmoniously with Basil, Cardamom, and Spearmint essential oils.

Directions for Use

For food flavouring.

Cautions

Use only diluted. Do not take more than one drop per day. Keep out of reach of children. If pregnant or under medical care, consult your doctor. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, face, sensitive areas and mucous membranes. In case of skin contact, dilute generously with a carrier oil.

Sourcing

Lemongrass does not require much groundwater, so it grows well in many regions of India. By sourcing Lemongrass essential oil from India, we can also support local smallholder farmers.

Lemongrass is a perennial grass that is generally harvested four times a year. During harvest it is cut at the base, left to dry in the field, and collected the following day. The cut lemongrass is gathered into piles, tied into bundles, loaded onto carts, and transported to the distillery. Crop yield also depends on how many times the plant is cut back during the year, but on average about 110 kilograms per hectare can be expected. After distillation, the spent lemongrass can be used as an energy source to operate the distillery. doTERRA sources lemongrass from smallholder farmers in India. The average grower farms just over one hectare of land. Although some growers continue to cultivate other crops such as wheat, potatoes, and rice, diversification with lemongrass can provide them with greater returns because lemongrass is a valuable crop that can generate higher sales value and income.
